So, I mentioned I had another new lens, besides the 85mm. My other new toy is a Lensbaby Composer Pro with Edge 80mm Optic.

What is a lensbaby? Well, it’s a novelty lens that gives a special effect. It is sort of a distant cousin of the very pricey tilt-shift lens. The depth-of-field on this lens can be adjusted by moving the lens head up and down, or from side to side. The aperture is manual, meaning you set it on the lens, and this also affect the DOF. Here are some examples. The focus/out of focus area is due to the lens. It is not an effect created in Photoshop.

It’s pretty cool! I haven’t had a chance to use it outside much because it’s cold, and I am a wimp in the cold, but I brought it to IHOP with me and took a few shots …

This is what my Lensbaby looks like. It is not my image. I am borrowing it, lol.

Anyway, I think it’s going to be fun!

  1. I’ve been wondering what a Lensbaby does. Love your shots. I’ll have to put it on my birthday list now that you’ve put temptation in my way πŸ™‚

  2. I have had the composer for about 2 years and I love it! Its tons of fun and gives a really cool (sometimes eery) effect to pictures. Find some old architecture one evening, I bet you will get some great pics. Here are a few of mine.

  3. Some really terrific images that have a fun feel about them . A huge thanks Jennifer about the technical info, so I am hoping to do some more research this weekend. Hope you have a great end to the week and more lens baby please….lol, .
