More BRAT …

I may take the Subaru for a little spin this weekend. The girls will be over, of course. They want to do another lawn rave tonight. Amanda is coming over too so we can book our flight to Philly in July, or is it Pitts? I can’t remember. Anyway, she’s decided to do the Master’s National. Masters is for bodybuilders who are over 35 years of age. I will not be in the show, just photographing it. I skipped the lawn rave last night because I have my doctor’s appointment this morning. I wanted to get a good night’s sleep. I’m seeing a back specialist. Have no clue what he will suggest, but I hope he doesn’t just try to give me pain pills. If he does, I may just get mad. I’m so tired of doctor’s who want to write me scripts and not get to the bottom of this. I can deal with the pain. I’ve been doing that for over a year. I want to know what the problem is. Wish me luck.

  1. Best of luck with your Dr.s appointment, so many doctors just want to give something for the pain rather than establish the root cause. Have you been referred to a physiotherapist or a back specialist. It took over a year and about four doctors before I found a pro active specialist, now 25 years later I still have full movement and only bouts of discomfort, but I am fifty so I reckon thats just fine. Buy the Subie, they make you smile !!

  2. I saw a back doctor this morning. They did another X-Ray. He didn’t try to give me pain meds, so that was good! Basically, he said with this type of injury, the cause is most likely scar tissue. I have a lot of it. It is visible to the naked eye in my spinal region. What happens is that these ligaments don’t really “heal” in the true sense. They form scar tissue. It’s not the same as the ligament tissue, more like a fibrous and kinda weak patch. It can press against nerves, which explains a lot of my symptoms. He said a year after an injury like this and what you have is what you got. Doesn’t get a whole lot better. It was sort of refreshing to hear, actually. It may improve slightly more over the next six months. I’m just happy it probably won’t get worse, but maybe a little better. If anything, I will just learn how to deal with it better over time. I’m still in decent shape, maybe not as good as I once was, but I’m able to maintain a level of fitness as long as I watch my nutrition. It just means I have to eat a lot more chicken breast. Guess what’s for dinner, lol?

  3. Wild girls in the field…I wish they did not get mosquito bites…I wish your pain will be quenched soon. You are so brave to post good articles every day , in spite of such pain.

    • Oh Jasmine is here now too (they are all over here every weekend and some week nights too) and so she wanted to go back to the Brat and take some photos, as she felt left out after seeing these. So we all went back and I took a few more shots of them and then they had pedicures and I took pictures of their lovely clean and polished toes! 🙂 It was fun.

I’m not in pain all the time; it comes and goes. I’ve had a really good week. Very little discomfort at all, barely noticeable. It only gets super bad occasionally, especially when I do too much, either at the gym or just in general, as I tend to run myself ragged. I have a lot of energy and I’m used to being very active. I’ve had to learn how to stop and take it easy! I’ve still got a ways to go, lol. But most of the time I feel okay.
